The Metropolitan Detroit Chapter

The Chapter was formed more than 30 years ago and was originally called the Detroit Chapter.  In 1999 it was renamed the Metropolitan Detroit Chapter to more accurately reflect and represent its membership.  The Chapter has grown steadily over the years, both in number of members and in the services and programs offered.  There are currently over 100 members!  The Chapter holds a monthly educational meeting, a monthly Board meeting, and an annual vendor show.  We have been involved in the annual Community Challenge Weekend since it was first held in 1999.  The Chapter publishes a quarterly newsletter, The Agenda.

Community Challenge 2008 Learn to Love Books
Written by aladetroit

We have all heard the negative reports about Michigan, and especially the Detroit area.  Many of these reports come from people who do not live here, and most likely have never visited Detroit.  It’s a view that misses what makes our area an incredible place.  Some call it “Heart”, others call it “Optimism”; in the Detroit Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators (Detroit ALA), we call it “Community”.  Our Detroit Community is one that recognizes need and takes action.

For many years, the Detroit ALA has organized a community service project designed to assist children in need.  In 2006, under the guidance of Cyndi Deittrick, the Detroit ALA project turned toward a long-term goal of expanding literacy in our community by helping children “Learn to Love Books”.  During the past two years, Chapter members and member firms have donated school supplies and learning tools to provide over 250 backpacks to at-risk children.
